Giovanni Pierluigi Palestrina
Palestrina, whose name derived from the place of his birth, was one of the principal composers of the late 16th century. His works represent the height of musical achievement of the period. His compositions bear the approval of Holy Mother Church. Palestrina's career was largely spent in the heart of Catholicism -Rome, at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Cappella Giulia at St. Peter's and at St. John Lateran.
