"Uncompromising Catholic Militancy"

[In response to someone who begged him (Saint Pius X) to "go soft" on the Modernists, He retorted]: "Kindness is for fools! They want them to be treated with oil, soap, and caresses but they ought to be beaten with fists! In a duel you don't count or measure the blows, you strike as you can! War is not made with charity, it is a struggle a duel. If Our Lord were not terrible he would not have given an example in this too. See how he treated the Philistines, the sowers of error, the wolves in sheep's clothing, the traitors in the temple. He scourged them with whips!"

April 2007 A.D. IN TODAY'S CATHOLIC WORLD

Ecclesiastical Approbation
In Today's Catholic World carries the approbation in writing of the (True) Hierarchy in eclipse i.e., connected with Pope Gregory XVII.

St. Ignatius of Antioch - "Let no one do anything of concern to the Church without the bishop. Let that be considered a valid Eucharist which is celebrated by the bishop or by one whom he ordains [i.e., a presbyter]. Wherever the bishop appears, let the people be there; just as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church." (Letter to the Smyrneans 8:2 - 110 A.D.)

THEOLOGY WITHOUT REASONING

Symptoms and possibilities

"There appears to be, here and there, a badly disguised aversion towards speculative theology and towards the assumption of the sure principles of permanent philosophy, aiming at a better understanding of the revealed datum. Some opposition to St. Thomas Aquinas is also noticeable, to the scholastic systematization, and to the work accomplished after the days of the great Fathers of the Church, both Occidental and Oriental.

At the same time people are not lacking, who like to take an interest in theology by merely piecing together excerpts from the Scriptures or from the writings of the Fathers, especially, if not exclusively, going back to the earliest centuries and taking meticulous care to avoid all scholastic terminology, specifications, definitions of things and terms." Extracted from: Holy Ideals And Celestial Presence In the World (Theology Without Reasoning p. 44) by Cardinal Joseph Siri 1965 A.D. (A.K.A. Pope Gregory XVII)

"After the world war...one will endeavor to prevent the Pope from exercising his sacred office...."
(Prophecy of Sister Ludmilla of Prague from Fr. R. Gerald Culleton's book, The Reign of Antichrist p. 297)

Then Fr. Khoat said, “Come with me right now. I have two tickets to go to America where there are people who will help you.”

"Siri" replied, “That would be impossible. I cannot go. They can kill me at anytime.”

(Excerpt from the first conversation between Fr. Khoat and the Hostage Pope, Gregory XVII, in a tense brief private meeting at the Istituto Ravasco Convent in Rome on June 14th, 1988 A.D.)

The Will of Christ Jesus for His Church:

Therefore, if anyone says that it is not by the institution of Christ the Lord Himself (that is to say, by divine law) that blessed Peter should have perpetual successors in the primacy over the whole Church; or that the Roman Pontiff is not the successor of blessed Peter in this primacy: let him be anathema.

THEOLOGY WITHOUT REASONING: WARNING! TO ALL CATHOLICS REGARDING
"THE ZIRCONIA BROTHERS" (A.K.A. THE DIMOND "BROTHERS")

In Today's Catholic World (TCW)
April 29, 2007 A.D.
(Minneapolis)

Important Warning To All Catholics!

Santa Catrina Siena
St. Catherine of Siena (feast April 30th) pictured with an unidentified Pope
(Her humble prayers and good works were instrumental in bringing the Papacy back to Rome, from its "Babylonian Captivity" in Avignon)

"See that I do not have to complain of you to Jesus crucified," wrote Catherine of Siena to Pope Gregory XI; "there is none other to whom I can appeal, since you have no superiors on earth." And again, a little earlier in the same letter: "Take care, as you value your life, that you commit no negligence."

Important Warning Against False Prophets:

The Zirconia Brothers (A.K.A. The Dimond "Brothers")

"It is fitting, therefore, that you keep aloof from such persons, and neither in private nor in public speak to them. But flee from all abominable heresies and those who cause schism… Brethren, do not be deceived. If any man follows him who separates from the truth, he shall not inherit the kingdom of God; and if any man does not stay away from the preacher of falsehood, he shall be condemned to Hell… If anyone walks according to a foreign doctrine, he is not of Christ, nor a partaker of His passion. Have no fellowship with such a man, lest you perish along with him, even though he should be your father, your son, your brother, or a member of your family." -St. Ignatius of Antioch

A group of seditious-self-promoters, who call themselves Catholic monks, are spreading a damning *falsehood, regarding the historical reality of Pope Gregory XVII and His documented persecuted (by the satanically stealthy Judeo-Masonic enemies of the Faith) papal reign from October 26, 1958 A.D. to May 2, 1989 A.D. This preposterous-poisonous-pack (all 4 of them) who spend most of their time and ink deriding Thomistically Trained (True) priests - not sparing (God help us) even the *Angelic Doctor himself!!! - had, and have been privately offered more than once to view important historical evidence pertaining to the Eclipsed Papacy of Christ's Vicar (Pope Gregory XVII) that has not been publically revealed, but have rejected the offer - opting for the "popular" Novus Ordo (Jewish) "historical" **presentation of events, of what they deem the "external forum".

*The Angelic Doctor's Summa Theologica carries special authority in the Church, who ordains that all who teach in her name should be imbued with its teaching (Code, Canons 589, 1366).

**"Neither did I care to read newspapers... In newspapers, as a general rule, one finds only a great deal of lies and useless reading."
-St. Anthony Mary Claret

You will not find this incident in the New Order's Version of History, nor on the Zirconia Brothers "popular" website:

una cum Pope Gregory XVII and Successors
The Reverend Fr. Louis Campbell
Offers Daily Mass in union with the Successors of Pope Gregory XVII

The well known Fr. Louis Campbell, who personally met with "Cardinal Siri's" (A.K.A. Pope Gregory XVII) intimate confidant Archbishop Pintonello- and has done extensive research on the Hostage Pope, has related the following revealing occurrence:

In 1978 "Cardinal Siri" was interviewed by a newspaper reporter who asked "Siri" if he liked the speech of John Paul I and "Cardinal Siri" told the reporter that John Paul I didn't write it, it was prepared FOR him and he "just read it". When pushed by the reporter about how he liked the new pope or the new situation in Rome, "Siri", rather frustrated, blurted out "it's like the papacy of *Eugene I!"

*Making reference to a 7th Century Antipope! Who, when the real Pope (Martin I) was under duress, exiled in a dungeon and thinking he (Martin I) was going to die (the REAL Pope) Martin I "recognized" as legitimate an Antipope (Eugene I). Note: "Eugene I" was created in an emergency by the clergy of Rome, as Martin I seemingly could not be reached. Yet he (Eugene I) was an unlawful "pope" (an Antipope) as the eminent papal historian, Artaud de Montor explains Martin I could not have given up the See of Peter validly so long as he remained under duress.

Yet, even this "version", the Dimond's one, (i.e. what could be watched from afar, via the world news media) if it were 100% true, would not suffice to cause the documented Pope under DURESS (Gregory XVII) to ipso facto (automatically) lose His Office as Christ's Vicar. (See: Monsignor Charles Journet's imperative Imprimatured work on this matter immediately below and also the historical precedent of the papal reign of Pope Paschal II as commented on by the famous Fr. Noël Barbara. -ED)

"Let no one deceive you with empty arguments; for on account of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience" (Eph. V:6).

"The evidence is definitely - and without a doubt - that Cardinal Siri was in fact elected Pope in 1958 and 1963, and that the elections of John XXIII and Paul VI were invalid..." (Quotations extracted from the Dimonds Official Website. -TCW)

It is an objective Theological Truth that: a Pope has NO Superiors on earth, and therefore, logically cannot be judged (punished) by His inferiors.

These illogical individuals "The Zirconia Brothers" are truly False Prophets!

"each individual will want to be on his own..."

Narcissus
Narcissus

"The Vicar of my Son will suffer a great deal, because for a while the Church will yield to large persecution, a time of darkness and the Church will witness a frightful crisis. The true faith to the Lord having been forgotten, each individual will want to be on his own and be superior to people of same identity, they will abolish civil rights as well as ecclesiastical... The Holy Father will suffer a great deal. I will be with him until the end and receive his sacrifice. The mischievous would attempt his life several times to do harm and shorten his days but neither him nor his successor [here, Melanie inserted in parentheses the words, ‘who will not reign long’] will see the triumph of the Church of God."

(Words spoken by Our Lady of La Salette to Melanie Calvat in 1846 A.D., a fully approved Church Apparition)

Old French proverb: "Qui mange le Pape, meurt!" (Who eats the Pope, dies!)

The Zirconia (Dimond) Brothers know little (note: on purpose? as noted above) about "Siri" - the details of what forced him aside, what conditions kept him on the sidelines for 31 years, nor the confusion in "Siri's" own mind about his options *(see insightful piece below), none of which were very good.

"In the Passion of Christ nobody stand up to say one word to protect Our Lord Jesus Christ. In the Passion of the Church, who stand up to protect the true pope Gregory XVII in Exile? Nobody." -Fr. Khoat Tran (written statement 05/20/06)

*It Is A Question Of Law

"Resignation is invalid by law if it was made out of grave fear unjustly inflicted, fraud, substantial error, or simony"
(1917 Code of Canon Law, Canon 185)

Note from the Editor, Mr. Hobson: The following short legal treatise pertaining to the papacy of Pope Gregory XVII, with minor modifications, was submitted by an individual (who prefers to remain anonymous) prior to the public announcement carried by TCW on September 3rd, 2005 of Fr. Peter Khoat Van Tran's historic contact/meeting with "Cardinal Siri" (A.K.A. The Hostage Pope, His Holiness, Gregory XVII) on June 14th, 1988 in Rome.

In regard to the election of "Siri", it is wrong to put the focus on what "Cardinal Siri" knew or did not know, or what his opinions were in in regard to the legitimacy of the election, for it is truly irrelevant. Clearly it seems that "Cardinal Siri" did not display heroic virtue (there is no divine mandate that a pope must be a saint or be heroic before he may accept the papacy), but that does not change the clear fact that his own judgement moved him to take the papacy, which he did, and left to his own volition, he took the papacy. That has already been proved by his taken the papacy and the name Gregorius XVII. Clearly, it was someone else's will that caused him to "resign" the papacy that he had already taken. It was not his will, but the will of some cardinal or cardinals in that room. The will of the 2/3rd had already been expressed. The will of "Siri" had already been expressed.

What was done by the people in that room is what is unlawful.

After he accepted and took the name Gregorius XVII, they were obliged to be silent in their objections. The treasonous cardinal or cardinals who viciously pressed him to resign acted unlawfully, and that is where the focus lies on the question of illegality.

That "Siri" recognized the "papacy" of John XXIII is not relevant to the question of whether someone acted unlawfully and whether these unlawful actions invalidated the resignation and subsequent "election" of John XXIII. "Siri's" opinions on the matter have no bearing on the question. "Siri's" opinion would not determine the illegality of the actions of the other cardinals.

It is a question of law.

ALL the cardinals appear to have recognized the election of John XXIII. Is it majority rule that would control? A majority opinion of the cardinals in that room have little or nothing to do with the question of whether a canon law had been violated, about whether undue influence on "Siri" was present.

If all the cardinals in that room agreed that Christ is not the Son of God, is He still the Son of God?

Clearly, "Cardinal Siri" acted as if the election of John XXIII were valid, but human nature being what it is, would he be likely to have any other opinion? If it were his opinion that he was Pope, would he not be forced to act upon it? Cardinal Siri was not heroic in his actions. He did not stand his ground. He backed down. None of us want to see our own appalling lack of heroism. Is "Siri" any different from any of us? It would be natural for him to believe that his actions and their actions did not have any real repercussions to the papacy. It would be natural for him not to want to think of it at all. He would not want to face it. If he faced it, he would be compelled to take action. It would put him in an untenable position.

But at the end of his life he appeared to be more willing to see and confront what had actually happened at that conclave. He appears to have appreciated the consequences of their actions and of his actions.

The Zirconia Brothers (Michael and Peter) in a recent show of even further illogicalness - after publically stating on their own internet podcast program their objectively FALSE unreasoned/unCatholic "view?" regarding the Papacy of Pope Gregory XVII from 1958 to 1989 -then went on to say, that as far as the "idea" of some who say that "Siri" chose a successor - that according to someone in the know they spoke with - that, that idea, quote, "goes nowhere". Hold it!! - one second ago these *charlatans were in a supreme act of wicked Pride- doing what no one is allowed (nor dare) to do - Judging a Lawful Pope (who has NO superiors on Earth) - and THEN these
Dark dolts go on to comment as to whether His Holiness, Pope Gregory XVII had a Successor (s)? ... citing some anonymous "source" who knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING regarding this most important of matters?

3 Days of Darkness Prophecy

It very well could be reasoned that these two (excuse me 4) are very fearful of losing their grip on their imaginary fiefdom. A word to the wise:
do note that outside of the Zirconia Brothers noxious "Theology Without Reasoning" regarding the Office of Christ's Vicar .... they offer no solution to solving the current crisis, unjustly attack almost all the True clergy, and go-out-of-their-way to discount the Three Days of Darkness Prophecy (and the gravely important information about the necessity of obtaining Blessed Candles what to do/avoid during it, etc.,) that has been handed down for centuries -again... what is their purpose?

*(Veteran True Catholics may recall the "former"debunked charlatan- Brother Elias... ?)

Pope Gregory XVII ran the Vatican (underground) from June 1988 until May 1989 *"We will not be bound by these decrees." -"Cardinal Siri" (A.K.A. His Holiness, Pope Gregory XVII) speaking in the
royal We as Christ's Vicar, declaring that Roman Catholics are not bound by the unlawful Apostate Vatican II "decrees".

*Note: It is truly amazing that the Hostage Pope (Gregory XVII) could get this message of truth out to the Faithful. TCW was recently entrusted with historic photographic evidence of the Hidden (Underground) Papacy in operation *after an important priest met with Gregory XVII on June 14th, 1988 (i.e. *post 06/14/88). In addition with these photographs from the late 1980's from Italy, a hand drawn map detailing the suffering Pontiff's quarters, where His Holiness was under a controlled house arrest with the words "Siri's Prison" was also included/forwarded for the Historical record. Hopefully this information will be posted online soon. -ED

*(First posted on Jan 18, 2007 A.D.) - Note: There are some (usually untrained layman) who acknowledge that His Holiness Pope Gregory XVII was indeed elected as Christ's Lawful Vicar on Earth at the 1958 Conclave, but then balefully attempt to "reason" that He lost His jurisdiction ("stopped being Pope") at some undefined point - This is Objective Error:

"For no one on earth can touch the Pope"

Saint Pius X's Papal Tiara

Picture of Papal Tiara worn by His Holiness Pope Pius X (click image to enlarge)

"The Church has no power to change the form of her government, nor to control the destiny of him who, once validly elected, is no vicar of hers but Vicar of Christ. Consequently she has no power to punish or depose her head. She is born to obey. This truth may seem hard, but the best theologians have never attenuated it; rather, they have accentuated it. To make us aware of all that we ought to be ready to suffer for the Church, of how much heroism she can ask of us, they have proposed extreme cases. They have supposed a Pope who shall scandalise the Church by the gravest sins; they have supposed him to be incorrigible; and then they ask whether the Church can depose him. Their answer is, no. For no one on earth can touch the Pope."

(Excerpt from the Imprimatured book: The Church of the Word Incarnate by Monsignor Charles Journet, Professor at the Major Seminary of Fribourg, Volume One: The Apostolic Hierarchy Sheed and Ward London and New York 1955)

Note: the above quotation follows the objective Catholic Truth that a Pope has no Superiors on earth, and thus cannot be judged (punished) by His subordinates.

*Please see the following information on the much debated by Theologians for centuries question, of what hypothetical remedies could be available, "if" a Pope, as a private individual were to become an obstinate (stubborn) heretic.

*In the case of whether a Pope as a private individual could or were to become a hidden or open (public) heretic - there has been considerable debate for centuries on this subject - and if he could/ would retain his (papal) office - or could be judged/deposed as a private person by some mechanism (i.e. an imperfect council etc.)

Note: some have stated that "Cardinal Siri" (A.K.A. The Hostage Pope, Gregory XVII), by signing the unlawful Vatican II decrees ipso facto (by that very fact) lost His Pontificacy. This is completely false, and thoroughly refuted (below). See: the historical precedence of
Pope Paschal II [1099-1118] who signed false decrees while under duress and did not lose His office as Pope. -ED

Regarding His Holiness, Gregory XVII "The Hostage" Pontiff:

1. As a Bishop, Archbishop and Cardinal in Genoa, Italy prior to his election as Pope he (Cardinal Siri) was known as one of the top prelates in the Church and widely reported to be the hand-picked successor of Pope Pius XII.

His Holiness, Pope Pius XII with His hand-picked Successor Cardinal Siri
Pope Pius XII (just prior to his death in 1958) shown with his hand-picked successor Cardinal Siri

2. Pope Gregory XVII was put under grave duress from the sect of Freemasonry the day of his divine election on October 26, 1958 A.D., until the day he expired May 2, 1989 A.D. (for more than 30 years)

3. Pope Gregory XVII called Vatican II "the greatest mistake in history".

4. His Holiness (as has been documented) was under a terrible death threat from the day he was elected Pope - which continued at the abominable Vatican II Council. UPI reported "Cardinal Siri" suffered from an alleged unprecedented "nervous condition" during the council... with one "attack" being so acute, it caused him to collapse to the ground, just moments before he was scheduled to give an address to all present. In 1967 he declared that- for him- the Council was a "difficult labor and a very great suffering". Regarding his signature on the ambiguous Vatican II documents, it was not rendered in his official capacity as Pope but, was written simply as "Giuseppe Cardinal Siri", and was, (as noted) signed under *duress. Through Divine Providence His Holiness was able to announce to the faithful the utter unlawfulness of the "Council" declaring: "We will not be bound by these decrees."

*On June 14th, 1988 Pope Gregory XVII confided to Fr. Khoat in a clandestine meeting at the Istituto Ravasco Convent (located at Via Pio VIII, 28. 00165 Roma) that the Freemasons had kept him completely monitored in public and in when out of the public view - under *captivity (for decades) stating to Fr. Khoat (almost 30) years after His election as Pope in 1958, "They (the Freemasons) can kill me at anytime."

* (See: "Siri's Prison" -TCW).

Pope Paschal II
Pope Paschal II
(1099-1118)

The Historical precedent of Pope Paschal II who signed false decrees while under duress - and AFTER being *delivered from his captors (*note: Pope Gregory XVII was never physically released and - unlike Gregory XVII who willingly publically denounced the false [V2] decrees) Pope Paschal II purposely did little - until the last nano-second- to publically declare (annul) the false decrees which he [Pope Paschal II] had signed - and he still did NOT (as history shows) lose his Jurisdiction as Christ's Vicar (Pope).

This completely refutes, for-all-time, - the unreasoned "claim" that Pope Gregory XVII (1958-1989) "forfeited His Papacy" by signing the Vatican II "decrees" -while he was under a documented death threat (duress).

The well respected Fr. Noël Barbara in his scholarly journal Fortes in Fide wrote a lengthy article on papal jurisdiction and what Catholic Theology teaches can (and must) be lawfully done to remedy the situation of a unrepentant incorrigible Pope who is suspect of being heretical. Fr. Barbara cites the example of Pope Paschal II who, after being put under duress, was coerced to make "official" acts, promises and concessions that were impossible to reconcile with Catholic Doctrine. And, after he was released from his captivity he proved himself scandalously remiss in not annulling the "official" decrees (pertaining to the condemned heresy of *Lay Investiture) that he had sanctioned while under duress by the enemies of de fide.

*The Church's Condemnation of Lay Investiture:
on Lay Investitures, 1078
Gregory VII
(Doeberl: 11 Monumenta Germaniae selecta," pp. 16-48.)
1. Decree of Nov. 19, 1078, forbidding lay investiture
"Inasmuch as we have learned that, contrary to the establishments of the holy fathers, the investiture with churches is, in many places, performed by lay persons; and that from this cause many disturbances arise in the church by which the Christian religion is trodden underfoot: we decree that no one of the clergy shall receive the investiture with a bishopric or abbey or church from the hand of an emperor or king or of any lay person, male or female. But if he shall presume to do so he shall clearly know that such investiture is bereft of apostolic authority, and that he himself shall lie under excommunication until fitting satisfaction shall have been rendered."

2. Decree of March 7th, 1080, forbidding the same.
"Following the statutes of the holy fathers, as, in the former councils which by the mercy of God we have held, we decreed concerning the ordering of ecclesiastical dignities, so also now we decree and confirm: that, if any one henceforth shall receive a bishopric or abbey from the hand of any lay person, he shall by no means be considered as among the number of the bishops or abbots; nor shall any hearing be granted him as bishop or abbot. Moreover do we further deny to him the favor of St. Peter and the entry to the Church until, coming to his senses, he shall desert the place that he has taken by the crime of ambition as well as by that of disobedience - which is the sin of idolatry. In a like manner also we decree concerning the inferior ecclesiastical dignities. Likewise if any emperor, king, duke, margrave, count or any one at all of the secular powers or persons shall presume to perform the investiture with bishoprics or with any ecclesiastical dignity, he shall be bound by the bonds of the same condemnation. And, moreover, unless he come to his senses and relinquish to the Church her own prerogative, he shall feel in this present life, the divine displeasure as well with regard to his body as to his other belongings: in order that, at the coming of the Lord, his soul may be saved." (From Ernest F. Henderson, Select Historical Documents of the Middle Ages, London: George Bell and Sons, 1910, pp. 365-366.)

(cont.) In addition, Pope Paschal II showed himself equally remiss in not publically sounding the alarm [excommunicating] the unlawful aggressor Henry V (who had imprisoned him) - until he was properly confronted by holy souls of the day.

CHURCH AND PAPACY:
(Theories selected from traditional theology)
by Fr. Noël Barbara, 11 November 1970, Fortes in Fide, Vol. 1, No. 5

The Pontificate of Paschal II (1099-1118). Once again the whole of Christendom was shaken, this time by the investiture controversy. The Emperor Henry V, after having imprisoned the Pope, forced him to make promises and concessions that were impossible to reconcile with Catholic doctrine. After his release from captivity, Paschal II hesitated for a long time before he annulled the acts to which he had consented while under duress.

Despite a considerable number of warnings from saints, cardinals and bishops, he continued to postpone both his own retraction, and the excommunication of Henry V, despite the fact that it was universally desired. A movement thereupon began that swept through the entire Church, which was directed against the Pope and which declared him to be suspect of heresy, and at the same time entreated him to turn back under pain of losing his pontificate.

Vidigal then proceeds to quote the evidence and the historical facts relating to the struggle by saints, cardinals and bishops against Paschal II, thus demonstrating that the theology of this period of the Middle Ages admitted the hypothesis of a heretical pope and that such a pontiff could, in consequence, lose his pontificate.

St. Bruno, Bishop of Segni and Abbot of Monte Cassino, was the leader of the opposition to Paschal II in Italy.

Paschal was very well aware that St. Bruno did not deny the hypothesis that a Pope could be deposed. He tried to pre-empt the issue by dispossessing the saint of his abbacy on the pretext that: "If we do not remove him from his office he will, by the force of his arguments, relieve us of the government of the Church."

And when Pope Paschal at last retracted, at a synod convened at Rome specifically to examine the question, St. Bruno declared: "Praise be to God, for behold the very Pope himself condemns this alleged privilege (that of investiture by temporal rulers) which is a heresy."

St. Bruno, in speaking out in this way, for the first time gave public expression to the extent of his mistrust of the Pope's orthodoxy.

Bruno was not the only saint of the period to admit that Paschal could have fallen into heresy. In 1112, Guido of Burgundy, Archbishop of Vienne and the future Pope Callistus II, called a provincial synod which was attended, amongst others, by St. Hugh of Grenoble and St. Godfrey of Amiens. With the approval of these two saints the synod revoked the decrees the Emperor had forced on the Pope, and sent a letter to Paschal II telling him, "should you, in spite of our absolutely refusing to believe it possible, choose an alternative path and refuse ratification of our decision, may God protect you, for were this to be the case we should be obliged to withdraw our allegiance from you."

These words are a threat to break with Paschal II, and are to be explained only by the fact that the bishops meeting at Vienne had in mind three main ideas:

1. That to deny the Church's teaching about investitures was heretical.
2. That the Pope had acceded to this heresy.
3. That a Pope who was eventually proved heretical lost his office and, consequently, should not be obeyed.

This interpretation is borne out beyond a shadow of doubt by the contemporary letters of St. Ivo of Chartres. [END]

As stated, the 261st Successor to St. Peter- His Holiness, Pope Gregory XVII: officially annulled the Vatican II decrees; admitted with great remorse that he made certain prudential grievous mistakes; asked forgiveness from God (in confession) and took action by running the (True) Vatican "Underground" from June 14th, 1988 until May 2nd, 1989. As has been reported earlier in In Today's Catholic World (May 20th, 2006 A.D.), His Holiness Pope Gregory XVII made Cardinals in the late 1980's who are still living today.

* Teaching of Antiquity by St. Cyprian of Carthage (253 A.D.): "They alone have remained outside [the Church] who, were they within, would have to be ejected. . . . There [in John 6:68-69] speaks Peter, upon whom the Church would be built, teaching in the name of the Church and showing that even if a stubborn and proud multitude withdraws because it does not wish to OBEY, yet the Church does not withdraw from Christ. The people joined to the priest, and the flock clinging to their shepherd in the Church. You ought to know, then, that the bishop is in the Church and the Church in the bishops; and if someone is not with the bishop, he is not in the Church."

"There is nothing more profitable [to live in the doctrine of the Summa Theologica], for one is sure to live in the full light of reason and faith."
(Catechism Of The"Summa Theologica", of Saint Thomas Aquinas For the Use of the Faithful, Of Faith, iv section B, p. 108. Imprimatur 1922)

(The Immaculate Conception and Aquinas): It is a common misconception being spread about that St. Thomas denied the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. In fact, St. Thomas Aquinas upheld the doctrine (apart from a philosophical minor debate at the time on the simultaneity of the grace with the conception).

St. Thomas Aquinas St. Thomas Aquinas: "And such was the purity of the Blessed Virgin, who was exempt from original and actual sin."
(Sentences, Distinct. 44, Q. I, Art. 3)

"[Mary was] most pure in regard to every fault because she never incurred the guilt of either original or actual sin."
(Opusculum 4 on the Angelical Salutation)

Pope *St. Pius V by his bulla in 1570, forbade either the opinion which affirmed, or that which denied it [the Immaculate Conception], to be censured.
Pope Paul V in 1616, reiterrated the same prohibition. Pope Alexander VII in 1671 declared that the devotion of honouring the immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was pious; yet prohibited the censuring of those who did not believe her Conception immaculate.

Again, St. Thomas Aquinas (d. 1274 A.D.) upheld the doctrine, yet still said that whatever the Church eventually pronounced in the dogmatic formulation of the doctrine, (note: which was officially proclaimed [a Dogma] in 1854 by Pope Pius IX) he would believe with his whole heart and intellect.

*St. Thomas was solemnly declared Doctor of the Universal Church by St. Pius V in the year 1567.

St. Thomas Aquinas scholarly writings were literally placed right alongside the Catholic Bible at the Council of Trent. His theological method of reasoning (thinking) known as Scholasticism, has been lauded by the greatest minds in the Church for close to 800 years. The holy Saint once said there was never a page of any book he ever read which he did not grasp in its entirety in his first reading of it. Our Lord Himself spoke to him from a crucifix, saying: "Thou hast written well of Me, Thomas."

Yet, near the end of his life, after receiving a heavenly revelation, St. Thomas put down his pen forever, stating: "All that I have written appears to me as so much straw, after the things that have been revealed to me."

"For those who think the great moments in Jewish history have passed, we're just in the middle." -Wolf Blitzer
(CNN's Jewish Anchor (Front) man Wolf Blitzer shown at an UJA (United Jewish Association) fundraiser Toronto, Canada 1999 A.D.)

The following was posted on the Official CJN (Canadien Jewish News) website on September 9, 1999 by Frances Kraft, Staff Reporter: Blitzer told a sellout crowd of 1200 people ... "For those who think the great moments in Jewish history have passed, we're just in the middle." ... The responsibility Blitzer carries professionally was underscored for him most pointedly when Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990, and he was reporting live on the situation from the Pentagon. Shortly after he speculated - in a broadcast seen in over 200 countries - about the possibility of the United States responding militarily and the length of time it would take to mobilize, a senior Pentagon official contacted him with a message from then U.S. president George Bush. "The fastest way for the U.S. government to send a warning to Baghdad was to tell a CNN reporter that the U.S. was not ruling out the military option," Blitzer recalled.

It is important to note that much valuable information regarding a variety of occurrences (important historical "case closed" events) is now surfacing - as the Internet has struck a powerful blow to the age-old-enemy, who for decades has reported (controlled) the daily "news" flow - that is so greedily swallowed-up by the dissipated masses.

A Suggestion: The Editor of TCW noticed that more-than-ever; many of the links for video clips of 911 footage on the major search engines have been deleted... be sure to download copies of (any) important information you have read (or saved in your favorites file) and consider burning the content to CD's.

Pope Gregory XVII
"Cardinal Siri" A.K.A. Pope Gregory XVII gave a clear reference to what happened at the 1958 Conclave
when He wrote in 1972 how the "superpowers" (Judeo-Masonry) "could" overturn a lawful Conclave

"The segregation of the conclave is yet more necessary; with modern means, with modern technology, without an absolute segregation it would not be possible to save an election from the pressure of external powers. Today the superpowers (and the lesser ones alike) have too great an interest in having on their side, through condescendence or weakness, the highest moral authority in the world. And they would do all that they are so very good at doing. The pressures to overturn the *substance of the law of the conclave could be driven by the will to obtain precisely this result." (Excerpt from, The Election of the Roman Pontiff (L'Elezione del Romano Pontefice) By: Joseph Cardinal Siri, originally published in RENOVATIO VII (1972), inst. 2, pp. 155-156, From “Il Dovere Dell’Ortodossia”)

agenda was to force Pope Gregory XVII, by any and all means possible, to relinquish the public exercise of His Office.

Pope Gregory XVII, affirmed the real threats thrust upon him at the 1958 Conclave

In the various clandestine meetings that Fr. Khoat had with the Hostage Pope, Gregory XVII in June of 1988 (which TCW possesses photographic evidence of) - Pope Gregory XVII, affirmed the unlawful real threats He received at the 1958 conclave. His Holiness also during one of the secret meetings, told Fr. Khoat that after all of this terrible evil (the illegitimate "popes" the life of guard/duress He was constantly under) - the one consolation that could be drawn from this gravest of attacks, was it showed the power of the Church (i.e. Her Teachings) to withstand the worst of persecutions.

1958 Conclave White Smoke

Three well reasoned paragraphs written by Hutton Gibson in his Newsletter (7/27/97) prior to his BLASTOFF!

"Perhaps you recall five minutes of white smoke, the traditional method of announcing the election of a pope, from the Sistine Chapel chimney October 26, 1958. At the same time the word went out from the Conclave marshal on the private telephone line to his outside counterpart to call out the guards to welcome the new pope. Then the guards were recalled; it was all a mistake. Sure it was! These people so privileged and so proud of their (non-voting) participation in the Conclave are of all men the least likely to fail their official duties. So we may take it that the Conclave had served its purpose and elected a pope who had accepted his election, or there would have been no white smoke and no telephone call. So somehow his election was set aside, and we were granted an antipope, a heretic and freemason, Roncalli. But there was no interregnum because there was a legitimately elected pope, even if we knew nothing about him—probably Cardinal Siri. We were given this excuse that the College of Cardinals countained no one of papal calibre, so it had seated this aged incompetent to appoint Montini a cardinal to be eligible at the next opportunity. But the College included men who would have stood out in any age, not least Ottaviani and Siri.

The whole concept is heretical. Was a fisherman of papal calibre? Christ seems almost to have gone out of His way to choose a pope and apostles for jobs clearly beyond their capabilities, thus proving that the power was in the message, not in the messenger. But they had the Holy Ghost, and so has a genuine pope, which is one proof that Roncalli, Montini, Luciani, and Wojtyla have never been popes. Any fool can be pope; the Holy Ghost will preserve him in truth. He cannot wander accidentally into heresy.

So we could have had a genuine pope kept from his rightful place by some such threat as an atom bomb on Rome, or the killing of millions of Catholics behind the iron curtain. He would still be pope, and he just may have changed the requirements for election of his genuine successor, whom he just may have appointed. *We may have a pope now. We cannot be sure that we have not. If we have, we can have no mandate to elect one."

At that time, the Pope with his cardinals will have to flee Rome in tragic circumstances to a place where they will be unknown. The Pope will die a cruel death in his exile. The sufferings of the Church will be much greater than at any previous time in her history. But God will raise a holy Pope, and the Angels will rejoice. Enlightened by God, this man will rebuild almost the whole world through his holiness. He will lead everyone to the true Faith. Everywhere, the fear of God, virtue, and good morals will prevail. He will lead all erring sheep back to the fold, and there shall be one faith, one law, one rule of life, and one baptism on earth. All men will love each other and do good, and all quarrels and wars will cease."

The rings on their hands to the nails which perforated His? The fashionable coiffure to the crown of thorns? The painted face to That covered with bruises? ROME'S DECREES ON MODESTY IN DRESS: STILL VICTIMS OF "CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE"
In Today's Catholic World (TCW)
April 18, 2007 A.D.

(Minneapolis) -April 18- TCW is reprinting an article that first appeared in the MarylikeCrusader, Nov-Dec 1963. It is important to note the writer (a loyal Catholic) is clearly expressing his dismay at the contrast of what Church law teaches regarding holy Modesty in Dress (which he accepted/followed) and what was coming (and not coming out) from *"Rome" at that time.

*Note: this article was written five years after the reprobate Freemasonic agents "within" the Catholic Church had stolen the Papal Throne from His Holiness, Pope Gregory XVII -ED

The enemies of the Church had been plotting for Her overthrow for decades - most sadly, many of the American Prelates (even in the late 1800's) had not properly sounded the grave alarm trumpeted by (the true) Rome regarding the threats/methods being used, or to be used, by the filthy Freemasonic sect in the U.S., (and worldwide), to accomplish their universal plan of destruction of the good (Catholic Order).

"Furthermore there have been found in Freemasonry several sectarians who have maintained that all means are to be systematically used, in order, to saturate the multitudes with licentiousness and vices; because in their opinion peoples would naturally fall into their hands and become the instruments needed for the accomplishment of their most audacious evil projects." -His Holiness, Pope Leo XIII

Today, 2007 A.D., the True Church is under the worst attack ever by its vilest enemy Judeo-Masonry (one side will win) - save your soul - pray for true papal restoration!

Rome's Decrees on Modesty in Dress:

Still Victims of "Conspiracy of Silence"

(English Translation of 1928 Document)

Modern Liberalism gives repeated evidence of a morbid fear of crusades against immodest fashions. It stubbornly adheres to the oft-repeated, and oft-condemned principle that Christian modesty in dress is regulated by “customs and styles of time, place and circumstances.” Just as stubbornly does it ignore, or refuse to heed, authoritative statements or decrees which contradict its pet sophisms and which insist that it is the Church, and not society, to which Christ has entrusted the principles governing Christian modesty.

Thus it happened that the “Crusade Against Immodest Fashions, Especially in Schools Directed by Religious,” ordered by Pope Pius XI on August 23, 1928, was all but completely ignored in the United States, even by our Catholic press. The letter containing the order was sent to all Ordinaries of Italy through the Sacred Congregation of Religious, and was made known to the world through the Acta Apostolicae Sedis in 1930 (vol. 22, pp. 26-28). Yet, to this day, very few Catholics have even heard of this document; and scarcely anyone seems to know its gravely-worded contents. For two decades we have been looking in vain for an English translation. At last we have one. It was made recently by the well-known Father John Rubba, O.P., from the Italian as it appeared in Commentarium Pro Religiosis (vol. 9, 1928, pp. 414-415). We are most happy to publish Father Rubba’s translation.

1928 Letter to the Congregation for Religious

To The Ordinaries of Italy: regarding the crusade against immodest fashions, especially in schools directed by women Religious.

Circular. Most Illustrious and Reverend Sir, well known to you are the grave words of condemnation which the Holy Father spoke, on several occasions, with apostolic authority, against the immodest fashion of women’s dress which prevails today to the detriment of good breeding.

Suffice it to recall the very grave words, charged with grief and admonition, with which in the discourse of August 15th current, in the consistorial chamber, promulgating the decree on the heroic virtues of Venerable Paola Frassinetti, His Holiness denounced once again the danger which, by its seductive fascination, threatens so many unwary souls, who profess to belong to the flock of Jesus Christ and to His Holy Church.

It is painful to point out in this regard that the deplorable custom tends to insinuate itself among young girls who frequent, as extern pupils, some of the schools directed by Sisters and Sunday-school classes which are held in female religious institutions.

In order to confront a danger which, by spreading, becomes ever more grave, this Sacred Congregation, by order of the Holy Father, calls upon the Ordinaries of Italy so that they may communicate to the superiors of the houses of female religious in their respective dioceses the following injunctions of this Sacred Congregation, confirmed by His Holiness in audience this day:

a) In all schools, academies, recreation centers, Sunday schools, and laboratories directed by female religious, not to be admitted from now on are those girls who do not observe in their attire the rules of modesty and Christian decency.

b) To this end, the superiors themselves will be obliged to exercise a close supervision and exclude peremptorily from the schools and projects of their institutions those pupils who do not conform to these prescriptions.

c) They must not be influenced in this by any human respect, either for material considerations or by reason of the social prestige and of the families of their pupils, even though the student body should diminish in number.

d) Furthermore, the Sisters, in fulfillment of their educational pursuits, must endeavor to inculcate sweetly and strongly in their pupils the love and relish for holy modesty, the sign and guardian of purity and delicate adornment of womankind.

Your Reverence will be vigilant that these injunctions be exactly observed and that there be perfect conformity of conduct among all the institutes of female religious in the diocese.

You will severely call to task whoever should fail in this, and should any abuse be prolonged, you will notify this Sacred Congregation.

With deepest esteem, I remain,

Devotedly yours,

G. Cardinal Laurenti, Prefect

Sacred Congregation for Religious

Vincent La Puma, Secretary

Rome, August 23, 1928

Liberalism’s Excuse for Ignoring Letter

The excuse usually given for ignoring the Pope’s modesty crusade was, that it was not directed to the United States, but to Italy. A strange attitude, indeed, after Pope Pius XI had spoken to the world (as had Pope Benedict XV previously) “grave words of condemnation ... on several occasions, with apostolic authority, against immodest fashion of women’s dress which prevails today to the detriment of good breeding ...”; and in view of the fact that perhaps nowhere in the world were Catholic women and girls dressing more scandalously than in the United States, and therefore nowhere was the Pope’s Crusade more urgently needed than in our own nation.

But by 1928 Liberalism was already in control of Catholic thinking. And Liberalism could see no need for the Pope’s Modesty Crusade. It kept insisting that “custom” determines what is modest and what is immodest in attire—even when these shameless customs were introduced for profits by heathen commercialism in a de-Christianized society—all the warnings of the Vicars of Christ to the contrary notwithstanding.

Yet, the good faith of Liberalism fell under serious suspicion when it persisted in ignoring the 1928 Letter even after the Holy See made it official also for the United States less than 17 months later. For on January 12, 1930 the Pope directed the Sacred Congregation of the Council to issue a strongly-worded Letter on Christian Modesty to the whole world, which required of “Nuns compliance with the Letter dated August 23, 1928, by the Sacred Congregation of Religious.” [see no. 6 below] This 1930 letter was even more emphatic; gave more detailed directives; and imposed the obligation of combating the immodest fashions and promoting modesty on all persons in authority—Bishops and other ordinaries, parish priests, parents, Superioresses and teachers in schools. This letter reads as follows:

1930 Letter of the Congregation of the Council

By virtue of the supreme apostolate which he wields over the Universal Church by Divine Will, our Most Holy Father Pope Pius XI has never ceased to inculcate, both verbally and by his writings, the words of St. Paul (1 Tim. xi,9-10), namely, “Women ... adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety ... and professing godliness with good works.”

Very often, when occasion arose, the same Supreme Pontiff condemned emphatically the immodest fashion of dress adopted by Catholic women and girls—which fashion not only offends the dignity of women and against her adornment, but conduces to the temporal ruin of the women and girls, and, what is still worse, to their eternal ruin, miserably dragging down others in their fall. It is not surprising, therefore, that all Bishops and other ordinaries, as is the duty of ministers of Christ, should in their own dioceses have unanimously opposed their depraved licentiousness and promiscuity of manners, often bearing with fortitude the derision and mockery leveled against them for this cause.

Therefore this Sacred Council, which watches over the discipline of clergy and people, while cordially commending the action of the Venerable Bishops, most emphatically exhorts them to persevere in their attitude and increase their activities insofar as their strength permits, in order that this unwholesome disease be definitely uprooted from human society.

In order to facilitate the desired effect, this Sacred Congregation, by the mandate of the Most Holy Father, has decreed as follows:

Exhortation to Those in Authority

1. The parish priest, and especially the preacher, when occasion arises, should, according to the words of the Apostle Paul (2 Tim. iv, 2), insist, argue exhort and command that feminine garb be based on modesty and womanly ornament be a defense of virtue. Let them likewise admonish parents to cause their daughters to cease wearing indecorous dress.

2. Parents, conscious of their grave obligations toward the education, especially religious and moral, to their offspring, should see to it that their daughters are solidly instructed, from earliest childhood, in Christian doctrine; and they themselves should assiduously inculcate in their souls, by word and example, love for the virtues of modesty and chastity; and since their family should follow the example of the Holy Family, they must rule in such a manner that all its members, reared within the walls of the home, should find reason and incentive to love and preserve modesty.

3. Let parents keep their daughters away from public gymnastic games and contests; but if their daughters are compelled to attend such exhibitions, let them see that they are fully and modestly dressed. Let them never permit their daughters to don immodest garb.

4. Superioresses and teachers in schools for girls must do their utmost to instill love of modesty in the hearts of maidens confided to their care and urge them to dress modestly.

5. Said Superioresses and teachers must not receive in their colleges and schools immodestly dressed girls, and should not even make an exception in the case of mothers of pupils. If, after being admitted, girls persist in dressing immodestly, such pupils should be dismissed.

6. Nuns, in compliance with the Letter dated August 23, 1928, by the Sacred Congregation of Religious, must not receive in their colleges, schools, oratories or recreation grounds, or, if once admitted, tolerate girls who are not dressed with Christian modesty; said Nuns, in addition, should do their utmost so that love for holy chastity and Christian modesty may become deeply rooted in the hearts of their pupils.

7. It is desirable that pious organizations of women be founded, which by their counsel, example and propaganda should combat the wearing of apparel unsuited to Christian modesty, and should promote purity of customs and modesty of dress.

8. In the pious associations of women those who dress immodestly should not be admitted to membership; but if, perchance, they are received, and after having been admitted, fall again into their error, they should be dismissed forthwith.

9. Maidens and women dressed immodestly are to be debarred from Holy Communion and from acting as sponsors at the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation; further, if the offense be extreme, they may even be forbidden to enter the church.

Donato Cardinal Sbaretti, Prefect

Congregation of the Council

Rome, January 12, 1930

“Conspiracy of Silence”

This important letter may be found in Acta Apostolicae Sedis of 1930 (vol. 22, pp. 26-28). It also appeared in Canon Law Digest (1, pp. 212-214), and undoubtedly in many other papers in the United States. The Central Bureau of the Catholic Central Verein of St. Louis deserves much credit for circulating an English translation of this letter so widely and so perseveringly over a period of many years. Unfortunately, American Liberalism, which so loudly prates about its loyalty to the Holy See, succeeded in shoving the Pope’s modesty Crusade into oblivion by its “conspiracy of silence,” and by its summary rejection of any set of standards for modesty in dress.

What! No Standards?

But where do you find the Marylike standards in either of these letters? The Liberals ask with an air of triumph, thus implying, if not claiming outright, that these standards are not authentic. But after many years of research, these standards are now full authenticated as having been issued by the Cardinal-Vicar of Pius XI in Rome, in these words:

“in order that uniformity of understanding prevail in all institutions of religious women ... we recall that a dress cannot be called decent which is cut deeper than two fingers breadth under the pit of the throat, which does not cover the arms at least to the elbows, and scarcely reaches a bit beyond the knees. Furthermore, dresses of transparent material are improper ...”

(...)

The quick action of issuing the standards only 31 days after the Pope launched the Modesty Crusade show the great importance attached to the standards. You simply cannot promote modesty in dress without standards. Those who reject standards usually see no need for a Modesty Crusade. Or did you ever see any of them zealously promoting Christian modesty in dress? Hardly, they are too intent on calling those persons “prudes” who try to be conscientious in following the guidance of the Church; too busy trying to prove that modesty is what a paganized society, “custom,” says it is. In issuing standards, Rome lit the torch and held it aloft, but the Liberals quickly blew it out.

“In order that uniformity of understanding prevail” is the key to the question of standards. Without “uniformity” only confusion can result. And confusion defeats the entire purpose of the Modesty Crusade.

Both letters from the Holy See postulate some set of standards. Let us take some examples from the 1930 letter. How can parents possibly carry out number 3 in the absence of standards? Let conscientious parents try to object to a suit prescribed by a gym instructor, and see what happens!

Again, a teacher trying to carry out numbers 5 and 6 dismisses from school a girl who “persists in dressing immodestly,” or she bars from the school or its premises an immodestly dressed mother wishing to visit her daughter. Woe to that teacher if her case is brought to a Superioress or a Pastor who does not subscribe to standards of modesty in dress! “Liberty of conscience” is immediately invoked, and that poor teacher is “put in the doghouse.” Lack of “uniformity” nullifies all her efforts. (Many Sisters have complained of this.)

Further, how can the “pious associations” of number 8 possibly operate without a “uniform” standard? Try it!

Finally, in the absence of standards, “uniformity”, how would a pastor fare who would try to enforce no. 9?

Truly absurd and ridiculous is the claim of some that standards of modesty in dress are not essential for the Modesty Crusade. This fact is fully verified by the experience of the Marylike Crusade. Marching confidently under Mary’s glorious banner, we call these standards the Marylike Standards because we know that “Mary approves what the Church approves.”

Pope Pius IX Blessing Catholic Defenders of His Domain
Vicar of Christ and Ruler of the World, Pope Pius IX, shown Giving His Benediction to Catholic Military Defenders of His Domain

"In that little band were men of noble blood, of time-honoured memory, of high culture, fighting side by side with simple, hard-handed, broad-hearted peasants, who, full of devotion, left their hamlets and their homes to defend the Vicar of our Lord, and with striplings of seventeen, eighteen, and nineteen years of age, mature in faith, and the manhood of Christian chivalry. These were the men who, forsaking home and all that life holds best and dearest, went to bear arms as private soldiers, without hire and without hope, except that of defending the person and authority of the Vicar of Christ, and of shedding their blood, if need be, in the justest warfare and for the holiest cause." -Cardinal Manning

CHRIST AND ANTICHRIST: A SERMON AT THE MASS OF REQUIEM FOR THOSE WHO FELL IN DEFENCE OF ROME.
BY CARDINAL HENRY EDWARD MANNING

In Today's Catholic World (TCW)
April 15, 2007 A.D.

(Minneapolis) -April 15- In 1867 as the Freemasons of Modern Italy attempted to sack Eternal Rome (that is situated in that region of Western Europe) many Catholics from all parts of Christendom, including Italy, courageously dropped all they were doing/their plans and converged to the locale of the Holy See to protect Christ's Vicar (Pope Pius IX and His domains) as generations of past European Catholics had always done (i.e. helped defend the Pope from evil aggressors).

In Today's Catholic World is posting an important sermon from His Excellency, Cardinal Henry Edward Manning, who eloquently and justly shows the honor due to these Catholic military heroes and specifically to certain ones who bravely gave their lives (140 years ago) for de fide in the war (that continues today) against satanic masonry.

Of course a prudent (as directed by the True Hierarchy) Catholic military option against the sacrilegious V-2 criminal usurpers of Church property is both holy and lawful. Pray for Papal Restoration.-The Editor

Christ And Antichrist

A Sermon At The Mass Of Requiem For Those Who Fell In Defence Of Rome

by

Cardinal Henry Edward Manning, Archbishop of Westminster

(Given in 1867 A.D.)

We fools counted their life madness, and their end without honour. Behold, they are
numbered among the children of God, and their lot is among the Saints.
WISDOM, v. 4-5.

THERE is a day to come which will reverse the confident judgments of men. In that day 'the first shall be last and the last first.' The wise in this world will be fools, and the fools in this world wise. The mad in this world will be the heirs of a better. It is no wonder to us that, day after day, base, craven, hireling names should be showered upon the noble-hearted men who have joyfully laid down their lives for the Vicar of Jesus Christ. I should break the peace of this hour if I were to repeat the heartless and bitter railings which have been pelted at them. They would taint the fragrance of this sanctuary. I will, therefore, examine the cause for which they fell; and I will appeal from their nameless accusers to a tribunal which is seldom unjust to the broad, calm, common sense of Englishmen, and to the nobler and higher instincts of Christians.

The dead for whose repose we offer the Holy Sacrifice to-day were slain in battle for the defence of the sacred person of the Vicar of Jesus Christ, of his lawful authority over the city which, under the providence of God, he and his predecessors have held, by martyrdom, suffering, and sovereignty, for 1,800 years; for the liberty of his person and office as Head of the Universal Church, for his supreme guardianship of the faith and law of Jesus Christ, in which all Christendom has its vital interest; and finally, for the rights and spiritual liberties of the whole Catholic world.

If it be madness or baseness to die for such a cause, tell me what cause is holy, what cause is glorious? If the world call such men hirelings, the whole Christian world will honour them as martyrs; and we will bide the sentence of the Judge from Whom is no appeal.

There was a time when the whole of Western Christendom held it to be noble and glorious to volunteer in arms to defend the Holy Sepulchre from the powers of Mahometanism. Why is it not in like manner noble and glorious to defend the Vicar of Jesus Christ, the liberty, the purity of the Church itself from an anti-Christian revolution? If it was an act of Christian chivalry to defend the frontiers of Christendom, why is it not both Christian and chivalrous to defend its head and centre? If it was a noble courage to fight and to fall for the Christian liberty and purity of souls and of homes threatened by Mahometanism, how is it ignoble and hireling to defend the Christian Church at the centre of its liberty, purity, and life, against the violence of men who have blasphemously trumpeted their hatred of Christianity, and stained the cities of Italy with impurity and blood? If a war for justice be sacred, and if all Christians may lawfully and with dignity help their brethren of every nation, and die in such a cause, how can a Christian hand write names of infamy upon them? I appeal from such wresting of judgment to the Christian conscience arid Christian justice of Englishmen. I say, of Englishmen, because the hearts and consciences of Irishmen are already wounded and burning at this violation of every instinct of their faith.

But perhaps we shall be told that Rome is the capital of Italy.

We deny it. Rome is not the capital of Italy. It is the capital of Christendom. God has so made it, and man cannot unmake it. All Christian nations have a right in it. Italy has its share in Rome as France has, and all other Catholic people; and neither less nor more. But Rome is in Italy, and 'Italians speak one tongue. Geography and language create no rights. If it were so, Canada would justly be annexed to the United States. North America, 'one and united' would not be made ' till it had incorporated Canada in its national unity of language and geography. Spain may say the same of Gibraltar, Italy of Malta, and the races of India in their several limits of territory and language. To this portentous theory of nationalism we answer, that it is a denial of all true national and international justice, the source of schism in religion, and of revolution in politics. Until the schism of the sixteenth century shattered the unity of Christian Europe, this theory of confusion was never known. A higher unity and a higher law bound together the nations of the Christian world, and consecrated the authority of States, while it protected the liberties and rights of the people. As Christians, and as Catholics, we refuse to break up the unity of Christendom for the unity of Italy, and to sacrifice the Christian and supernatural order of the world to the ' national aspirations ' of any people.

His Holiness, Venerable Pope Pius IX
Ven. Pope Pius IX
"You must fight energetically, since you know very well what great wounds the undefiled Spouse of Christ Jesus has suffered, and how vigorous is the destructive attack of Her enemies.-His Holiness, Venerable Pope Pius IX

For the last thirty years the doctrine of nationalities and non-intervention has been preached with a subtlety and a confidence which has seduced many and stunned more. Men have been afraid of raising their heads against the claim of a nation's right to make revolutions. The doctrine which the Protestant Reformation used as a wedge to split off nations from the unity of the Church has been since applied as the lever to overturn thrones, and to destroy international rights. It is now wielded to overturn the Holy See. We are told that the highest and ultimate unity on earth is the unity of a nation; that each nation may isolate itself both in religion and politics at will; and that non-intervention is a reciprocal and universal duty of all nations to each other. Against this system of national supremacy, anti-Christian and immoral, we protest in the name of Christendom. There is a unity higher than the unity of any nation, in which the welfare of all nations is bound up : the unity of the Christian world. The maintenance of this unity, in its head and centre, in its order, and laws of national justice and co-operation, is the highest interest of all nations, and the guarantee of their reciprocal duties and rights. England isolated itself from the Christian world in religion three hundred years ago, and its present attitude of political isolation is the inevitable result, Russia in like manner is cut off from Europe by its schism, and its schism dictates its policy. Prussia is still half united to the Catholic world. The other nations of Europe are, for the most part, or altogether, members of the Catholic unity. It is not possible for any one of them to claim the Russian or English exemption from national responsibility to a higher unity, without renouncing their Catholic character. This, in an evil hour, Italy has been lured, taunted, tempted to do. And in an evil hour it has listened. It has claimed the capital of Christendom by a vote of its Parliament as the capital of Italy. But the Catholic world will not submit to this usurpation : and France, not as France, but as the mandatory of the Catholic Powers, has defeated, and will defeat, the usurpation, and protect the centre of Catholic unity and the Head of the Catholic world. This is our answer. The unity of Christendom will not make way for the unity of Italy.

It was for this cause these brave men fell.

And yet it was not against the Monarchy of Italy they fought. They were face to face with an anti-Christian horde, which the King of Italy disowned. Some ten thousand men of all parts of Italy, and of many other countries, armed and organised, without authority of public law, and in direct violation of the same, invaded the States of the Church. They made a private war in the name of the Red Revolution. This horde was led by the man who in 1848 stained Rome with innocent blood, and the other day de manded the overthrow of the Christian religion as essential to the welfare of the world. They were on their way to Rome to dethrone, not the Pontiff only, but Jesus Christ. God has not permitted the outrage to be perpetrated. While we were praying, day by day, in the Holy Mass, and before the most Holy Sacrament; while in Rome households were saying at the first hour of night the Litany of our Blessed Mother, with an invocation of St. Peter and St. Paul for the protection of the City; the head of the revolution, with its leader in all his prestige, was crushed and swept off the Patrimony of the Church by a blow so sudden and so complete that not a vestige, except the dead, wounded, and arms of the invaders remained on the field. Men will read this event differently. Some will see in it no more than a battle and a victory. We see in it also an answer to prayer, and an act of the power of God. It has once more saved the head and centre of Christianity from outrage and sacrilege; and they who gave their lives in the defence of Christianity may be numbered with the martyrs. But over that field of slaughter and of flight there hangs a gloorn as of a funeral pall. The unhappy men who fell with weapons in their hands raised against the Vicar of Jesus Christ were regenerate in baptism, and once illuminated with faith, and members of the Holy Catholic Church. In boyhood they had made their first confession and first communion as you did. But some terrible illusion of Satan, and the snares of secret societies, blinded and entangled them. I would fain say, 'Father, forgive them, they know not what they do!' But how could they be ignorant of their sin? There is mourning for them in many homes, and we mourn over their misery; but our tongues are tied, and our thoughts suspended. Our hearts can only ascend in secret to the infinite perfection of the Divine mercy.

I have said that those for whom we pray did not fall before the Italian Monarchy. But there are depths in these events which we cannot fathom. The armies of the King of Italy did not disarm or hinder the invaders. They were bound to do it, but did it not. They entered the Roman State in the rear of the revolution, and stood awaiting its success. I know not how to interpret this conduct : but I know how it would have been interpreted in England if the armies of the United States had not repressed the armed bands which a year ago, from their frontier, threatened Canada; still more, if they had advanced in the rear of the marauders to hold for the American Union what might be successfully seized by force. Such a course would not be ignoble because Great Britain is strong, nor is it noble because the Pope is weak. Neither are the ' national aspirations ' of Italy for Rome more legitimate than the national aspirations of the Union for Quebec. Italy has no more claim on Rome than on Dresden or Paris. Rome is protected by as sacred a right of sovereignty against the usurpation and ambition of Italy as Vienna or Madrid. Sovereigns do not lose their rights because they are in the neighbourhood of stronger powers. If proximity and geography and the unity of language constitute a right for the greater powers to absorb the weaker, then Brussels may be lawfully annexed by France, and Amsterdam by Germany. We have loudly aided and encouraged Italy in this usurping policy. We have lavished upon it ' the moral support ' of leading articles, and we shall reap the fruit of our labours.

It is a strange simplicity which pretends to wonder why France should ever have made a Convention when it withdrew its protection from the Holy See; and why it should have surrounded it with 'a moral cordon,' reserving to itself the right of in tervention.

It did so because the Holy See is to France and to the Catholic world a centre in which they have su preme and vital rights; and it placed the security of the Holy See within the same defence which protects our persons and properties from burglars and mur derers: the justice and conscience of Christian men, the public law of Christendom, backed by a supreme power which ' bears not the sword in vain.'

I have no doubt that they who counsel to Italy moderation ' for the present,' and hold out the hope of Rome in reversion when Pius IX. goes to his rest, sincerely believe themselves to be wise and equitable men. We are told also that the signs of the times are enough to show that Pius IX. is the last Pontiff who will hold a temporal sceptre. Some" men will read even Holy Scripture backwards. They can also reverse the signs of the times. Those signs rather indicate that so long as there is a Christian world so long the Pontiff will be Sovereign. If the world should apostatise from Christianity, it then may be that God would scourge it by the fulfilment of its heart's desire.

But it is well for them to know that the Catholic world, neither now nor hereafter neither at the decease of Pius IX., nor yet at any time will yield one shadow of the inalienable right "of the Sovereign Pontiffs to the capital of Christendom; nor will it for a moment suffer the denial of its own supreme right and duty to intervene for the protection of the Holy See. The moral cordon of justice and order will be always drawn around it; and the right of execution will never depart from the Catholic world. In the days of Pius IX, it is France alone which has executed the will of Christendom; in the days of his successor it may be a league of Catholic Powers, or the force of two hundred millions concentrated and brought to bear by some future or ganisation which shall give expression and effect to their will.

For twenty years the anti-Christian seditions of all the world have aimed at the overthrow of Rome, at the destruction of the Temporal Power first, of the Spiritual Power afterwards. They hate the Temporal Power much, but they hate the Spiritual Power more. They think that if it were possible to destroy the Temporal Power, the Pontiffs would be either per secuted or subject. A Pope subject to a Royal Supremacy would reduce the Spiritual Supremacy to absurdity; and derision would be a keener and more deadly weapon against Christianity than persecution. For this end, therefore, all the spirits of anti- Christian revolution have united against Rome. They have poisoned the public opinion of Europe against it by lying, or by truths perverted, which are the worst of lies. They have misled and influenced Governments, stirred up popular bigotry, painted the Government of Rome in the darkest and falsest colours, organised in secret a propaganda of sedition to disgust, alienate, and goad on the subjects of the Holy See to discontent and to rebellion. Finally, when the people of Rome would not rebel, nor accept them as deliverers, nor take the baits of sedition, the revolutionary hordes of all countries entered the Roman State in arms. It was at once proclaimed as the rising and insurrection of the Roman State. Foreign invasion played the part of domestic insurrection. Every act to seduce or to compel the peaceful population to rise has been used. Provisional Governments, revolutionary com mittees, petitions signed by imaginary thousands, plebiscites, proclamations, conspiracies in Rome, shells thrown among the loyal inhabitants, gun powder plots, mines under the walls all has been tried, but all in vain. In the end, moved by a just indignation, delayed, through Christian endurance, only too long, the soldiers and protectors of the Holy See crushed and scattered the lawless bands of the revolution. It was a just and noble act for the Catholics of all countries to sweep the seditions, con spiracies, and armed outrages of foreign invaders* out of the Patrimony of the Church. If the unbelievers of other countries, banded in secret societies, have a right to plot the overthrow of the Sovereign Pontiff, the faithful of other nations have likewise a just and perfect right, in open and lawful array, to defend his

person and his throne. If the revolution invade his State, the Catholic world has a right to turn it out. Foreign aggressors may justly be destroyed by foreign troops. And yet no Catholic power is foreign in Rome. Every Catholic has a right in the Holy See, and in the city where God has placed it. The theory of non-intervention has no application in this case. Non-intervention may be a policy of the natural order; but it must be confined to the sphere of politics, and to the mutual respect of civil Governments. When applied to Rome, it is a mere deceit, in order to mask the question. No Catholic Power can proclaim the policy of non-intervention when the Vicar of Christ and the Head of the Catholic Church is threat ened, To do so would be to renounce the Catholic character and name. Protestant or schismatical Go vernments may, perhaps, proclaim non-intervention as their policy, because they have forfeited their rights in Rome. They may also in their theories divide the Temporal from the Spiritual Power of the Pontiffs. But all Catholics know these things to be providentially united for the free and peaceful exercise of the mission of the Church among the nations of the world. The intervention of the French people to defend the person and authority of Pius IX. against external violence, from whatsoever nation, race, or Government it may come, would be, by all the prescriptions of Christian international law, an honourable, just, and noble act. How much more, when France has intervened against a lawless and immoral band of invaders, rebels to their own Government, and disturbers of the peace of the Christian world ! By this act, which is only one more in the traditional office of France in protecting the Centre and Head of Christendom, she has placed herself in the lead of the Christian order, the Christian justice, the Christian chivalry of the world. May God maintain her firm and inflexible in this noblest mis sion upon earth ! The Catholic world will confirm her acts by the sympathy and assent of its heart and conscience. France has thereby invoked upon her self the enmity, scorn, and railing of anti-Catholic and anti-Christian factions. But she has won to herself the confidence and the sympathy of every man among the two hundred millions in all lands, who refuse to offer up the supernatural unity, order, and purity of the Christian world as a homage to the tyranny of modern Nationalism, the deification of the civil power, the anti-Christian hatred against the Church of God. Let France stand firm, and she may stay the plague which is devouring Christian Europe. The prayers of all good men will ascend for her. These things bring to my mind others of a sadder cast, and nearer to ourselves. But I forbear to speak of my own country.

There are, however, happier thoughts, to which I gladly turn.

The late events have detected and exposed with a terrible but just retribution the hollo wness, the im posture, the falsehood, the vainglory, the impotence of the Revolution. Grandiloquence, mystery, pre tended ubiquity, for a long time terrified or distracted the friends of order. But the veil is rent, and the idol is broken. On the 1st of November the ring leader of this godless anarchy proclaimed to the world from Monte Rotondo : ' I here, alone a Roman General, with full powers from the only lawful Government that is, of the Roman Republic, and elected by universal suffrage have the right to maintain myself in arms on this territory of my jurisdiction.' *Before the moon was up on the night of the 3rd, he and his hordes were swept away, not by the soldiers of Christendom, nor by the armies of France, but by the just judgment of God, Whom, in the Vicar of His Incarnate Son, he had outraged and defied.

Thus, then, is one vast scandal and danger swept out of Italy. Year by year there have been arising in Italy the harbingers of a better day. It has suffered much, and the shadow of a greater suffering which may yet come is cast before upon it. But there is yet time, and there is yet hope. Italy is both Christian arid Catholic. Infidelity and Revolution have tormented and tainted Italy, but Italy is neither revolutionary nor infidel. Factions have risen, from time to time, to the surface; and the traditional mind and will of Italy is for a while confused and paralysed. But it is evidently rising again in vigour and control; and if only wise and Christian counsels prevail, the Christian mind of Italy will be once more in the ascendant. Then, and only then, can the reconciliation of Italy and Rome be accomplished. No worse enemy ever came between them than the Infidel Revolution. When Italy returns upon the path of its old Catholic glories, the heart of the Catholic world will return to it. We love and venerate it as the soil on which the greatest glories of the Catholic Church are inscribed,

and the Head of the Christian world is divinely placed. Apart from these prerogatives Italy has no claim upon our goodwill beyond other nations; against these supreme laws of Providence Italy has no rights. We pray that al
